“Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.” - Vincent Van Gogh
Winter is a great time to see wildlife in Yellowstone. The road from Mammoth Hot Springs to the north east entrance is open for car travel. On the way, there is Lamar Valley where bison, grizzlies, black bear, elk and wolves roam.
One of many elk herds I saw throughout the day at Yellowstone National Park.
There are 345 bighorn sheep in the northern Yellowstone area which extends 20 miles north of the park. The bighorn sheep occupy steep terrain in the upper Yellowstone River drainage.
I usually take photos of bison, elk, coyote, and pronghorn but this raven was very intriguing. He was posing for me in various places around the bison and I was able to capture 22 different photos of this guy. The detail in its feathers is amazing! See the different shapes of the feathers and the contrasting colors of blue and black. The catchlight in its eye shows the reflection of the mountain terrain in the background against the blue sky.
This is an outstanding and unique photo of a mule deer buck headshot with impressive antlers foraging for food. It is an excellent ground-level photo with a soft background. The catchlight in its eye shows the reflection of the mountain terrain in the background with a partial sun breaking through the clouds.
